Alexandru Ioan Cuza Park, also known under the names of IOR or Titan
Alexandru Ioan Cuza Park was named very recently. The Park got its name from Alexandru Ioan Cuza high school which is located next to it. This place of relaxation is popular because it is an acronym IOR from Romanian Optical Enterprise, also Titan as it is located in the area.
A short history: Alexandru Ioan Cuza was chosen Prince of Moldavia and Prince of Wallachia, and later become Ruler of the Romanian Principalities. The Ruler Alexandru Ioan Cuza is an important figure in the history of modern Romania, being the one who made The Small Union (Unirea Mica), the second union (the first union most important being realized, even temporarily, by the great prince Michael the Brave) that was made between the former Romanian province of Moldova and the Romanian Country (Oltenia and Muntenia).
This park is entirely situated in the 3-rd District of Bucharest City, in the central sector, located in the eastern, seen as a whole from the point of view of localization in Bucharest and his perimeters are the following: starting from the south west Liviu Rebreanu (park Alexandru Ioan Cuza 1), continues all in West Liberty Plain Street (strada Campia Libertatii) (park Alexandru Ioan Cuza 2). As a paranthesis : at the intersection of Liberty Plain Street (strada Campia Libertatii) with Baba Novac Street is the main entrance in the park, here you can also find the statue of the Romanian Ruler Alexandru Ioan Cuza. The northern side is bounded by the streets Baba Novac and Constantin Brancusi, in the east continues with Nicolae Grigorescu street. And all on the west again you can find Liviu Rebreanu street that separates two parks by a bridge: Alexandru Ioan Cuza 1 and Alexandru Ioan Cuza 2. On the east side it continues also the delineation of the park by the Brad Meadow Street (strada Lunca Bradului), Alley Mures Floodplain (Aleea Lunca Muresului) and meet the street to the south east Lotrioara. The top of the park is bordered by the Odobesti street and the entrance Odobesti. Titan, Salajan & Dristor area are also known under the generic name of Balta Alba.
Delimitation of the Alexandru Ioan Cuza Park
The unfolded length around the lake is only about 3,1- 3,2 km. It has an area of 85 ha. The lake it is of natural origin, with its own sources of underground water. Because of this, to maintain the water level, it was created a system of pumping. It is separated by a bridge Liviu Rebreanu street. There are five islands on the lake, called by the inhabitants “Pensioners Island”, “Island IOR”, “Dog Island”, “Island of Roses” and “Sunken Island”. There are also two lakes and two proper parks. It is a more sober, more elegant park with an youthful, enthusiastic atmosphere. The park is still under the name IOR Park, name he got from Romanian Optical Enterprise (Intreprinderea Optica Romana – I.O.R.), an enterprise which is located near the cinema Gloria. Gloria cinema is situated in the north east of the lake, at the crossroads of Baba Novac, Constantin Brancusi and Bucovina Alley, alley that leads to the Lia Manoliu Sports Complex. The park was built between 1965 – 1970 and was recently refurbished courtesy and with the participation of Distrikt 3 City Hall. Today Titan and Dristor neighborhood residents, and not only them, can enjoy an oasis of greenery and serenity in the heart of their Sector. Before fitting section from Str. Baba Novac was called “Reconstruction” and the Boulevard from Camil Ressu (former Ion Sulea) was called “Flax”. In this park there is the Church “Pogorarea Duhului Sfant”, a wooden church in a Maramures style built between 1994-1996.
Flora & Fauna
Flora and fauna is diverse. They can be seen willows, sycamores, pine species, squirrels, ducks, peacocks (captive), swans (more or less in captivity), egrets, fish, turtles. The space was decorated with green grass. Trees are toilets and regular maintenance.
Relaxation and leisure methods
In the park there are possibilities for entertainment and leisure. Are peoples that play chess or backgammon. There are football fields in synthetic grass on enclosed space, well-defined spaces for skateboard enthusiasts, possibility to ride bicycles, run / jogging. Also in summer you can rent a boat for a stroll along the lake. And if you’re a person who likes silence and contemplation in park you can use one of the banks that you find there, or you can use one of the islands offers a more intimate space. There are also the opportunity to sunbathe and for animal lovers a special place was arranged. Neither the fishermen have not been forgotten. They benefit from their own island in this regard. The park features two stages for performances. A recently landscaped park scene Alexandru Ioan Cuza one, and a scene in an enclosed space with a total of 600 seats in the main entrance to the park, where performances are held regularly to the public. Canoeing enthusiasts have their opportunity to rent a boat for occasional rides. Find a variety of kayaks in this regard. During winter the lake is arranged an ice rink.
