 Semenic Mountains are part of the group of the Banat Mountains belongs to the Western Carpathians Mountains. Their special position – rises sharply and dominate with just the 1445 meters altitude the surroundings – gave them the name “the roof of Banat”, although it is far from the highest mountain range of this part of the country.
Located in southwestern Romania, access by car is easy to Semenic. Tourists can choose between two access ways: Resita – Cuptoare / Furnaces – Valiug (Franzdorf) – Prislop Pass / Pasul Prislop – Semenic, or Caransebes – Slatina Timis – New Brebu / Brebu Nou (Weidental) – Three Waters / Trei Ape – Prislop Pass / Pasul Prislop – Semenic. The distance is about the same. It should be noted that in winter is preferred embodiment in Resita. The last portion of the access road (Prislop Pass / Pasul Prislop – Semenic – 8 km) through a difference in altitude of 400 m.
Mountain peaks forming a triangle: Semenic (1445 m), Goznei Stone / Piatra Goznei (1447 m) and Nedeia (1439 m), so any of them can see the other two.
The Plateau looks like the alpine plateau, with large areas of grass and little vegetation otherwise. At the edge of the plateau starts mixed forests, fir, beech, spruce growing together. Here are located and are the sources of rivers that spring from the Semenic mountains: Barzava, Nera and Timis. Timis forms from three tributaries, streams namely: Molid / Spruce (Gradistea) Semenic and Brebu. Here, at the geographical source of Timis, is located the water storage “Three Waters / Trei Ape”.

Semenic massif spring waters have been connected since the nineteenth century through hydrographic network channels. These channels still exist today, some of them are still in service. In 1909 was built near Valiug the dam that formed the lake Breazova, one of the first of its kind in Romania. In 1947 began construction of the lake “Gozna” and a few years later was arranged lake “Three Waters” / “Trei Ape”, the dam is situated at the confluence of three little streams.
Semenic Mountain, although not high, is characterized by a great abundance in the snow. From here there is statistically a compact layer of snow for 6.5 months per year and lasts 3-4 months thickness per year to over 1 m, even in snow-poor winters.
However the climate is mild and easily bearable, even for small children. In winter temperature is from -25 °C to +6 °C in summer between +10 °C and +25 °C.
Due to the properties described above (snowy, mild climate, easy access, hiking and excursion possibilities), Semenic is a popular tourist attraction for both business and tourist.
There are different possibilities of accommodation: cottages, hotels and villas. Birta villa complex is due to the substantial investments made, the most modern accommodation base, not only in this region but also around the country, providing stays at Western European standards of even the most demanding tourists.
